On this page are things Bigfatcat does and enjoys and listens to and recommends.
PLAYBACK:stl is this groovy music & entertainment magazine founded by me and my husband in April 2002. We were in print before going Web-only (and reclaiming a bit of our personal lives, hallelujah!) in Sept. '06. We still rock, though.
Once we found ourselves with that free 10 minutes a day, PLAY:stl is the music festival & conference we launched in Sept. '07. In St. Louis on the Delmar Loop, PLAY:stl is an ideal spot for the independent artist to see, learn & be seen.
Of course Bigfatcat has a MySpace page; wanna be our friend?
Bigfatcat does only the tiniest of radio promotion, mostly associated with tour press. If you want a real college radio campaign, we highly recommend our friends at Apples & Cats Media. Tell Nina we sent you!
We listen to music all the time. Seriously; silence is bad. When we're not listening to clients (which is, let's face it, most of the time; sorry, honey), we often turn to our favorite indie rock Internet radio station, 3WK.
Interested in discovering the next big (unsigned) thing? Or in a band and looking to get some promotion and spins? Look no further than iChannel.fm. (We like to play a little game of seeing how many Bigfatcat clients are spun in an hour.)
Need a digital press kit but find it's not in the budget? Look no further than our friends at AirPlay Direct. Not only can you create an account and DPK for free, but you'll also be privy to contests and licensing opportunities. We did mention free, right?
Contests and opportunities for exposure abound at WeAreListening. This site has experts behind it and loads of ways for you to get heard. (Make sure you check out their sister site, too, VIRV.tv.)
In this world of payola and kickbacks, it's all but impossible to get played on FM radio, right? Wrong; that's where community stations like St. Louis mainstay KDHX come in. Listen to 'em, support 'em, love 'em.
Matthew Good: as close to perfect as a singer-songwriter will ever come, in my opinion. (He's got some pretty strong opinions about politics and human rights, too.)
And while we're on the subject of musical geniuses, don't overlook Bluebottle Kiss. In a just world, BBK would be the biggest thing the music industry has ever known. But there's still time...
